Correlation refers to a relationship between two or more variables in which changes in one variable are associated with changes in another. In other words, it is the extent to which two or more things change together over time. Correlation can be positive (when both variables increase together) or negative (when one increases while the other decreases). It does not imply causation - meaning that just because two variables have a correlation, it doesn't mean that one causes the other.
