They typically place great importance on personal conversion experiences and following the teachings of the Bible as the ultimate authority in matters of faith and practice. Evangelicals often emphasize the need for individual repentance and a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. The term "evangelical" comes from the Greek word meaning "good news," and is used to describe those who believe that salvation can only be found through belief in Jesus' death and resurrection, as well as his forthcoming return.
