The term "occipital" refers to anything related to or situated in the region of the brain associated with vision and located at the back of the head. This area is responsible for processing visual information received from our eyes, such as recognizing shapes, colors, and motion. In anatomical terms, occipital also describes the bone that forms part of the skull, situated at the base of the cranium where it meets with the vertebrae in the neck.
