The term "skull" refers to the bony structure that forms the head and houses the brain. It is composed of 22 bones, including the frontal, parietal, temporal, occipital, sphenoid, ethmoid, nasal, lacrimal, zygomatic, palatine, vomer, and inferior nasal conchae bones. The skull also contains various sinuses that help in reducing the overall weight of the head while providing protection to vital organs such as the brain, eyes, nose, and mouth.
