Totalitarian refers to a form of government or political system where all power is concentrated in the hands of one ruler, party or group. In such systems, there is no separation of powers and the state has complete control over every aspect of citizens' lives including their thoughts, beliefs, actions, and interactions. Totalitarian regimes often seek to suppress opposition and dissenting voices through various means such as censorship, surveillance, propaganda or outright repression. The term is commonly associated with authoritarian governments that exercise extreme control over their citizens in the name of national unity, security or progress.
