The unconscious is a state in which one is not aware of their surroundings or themselves. It refers to the part of the mind that contains repressed memories, desires, and thoughts, as well as instincts and impulses that are beyond conscious control or awareness. In psychoanalytic theory, it includes both conscious and unconscious processes, with the latter being more closely associated with primitive mental processes such as dreaming, repression, and censorship.
