Full definition
The next morning, I applied a thin coat
of clear wax with a clean rag.
I don't usually go over dark wax
with clear wax as it can sometimes remove the dark wax.
I did not
use clear wax first because the white wax is so light anyway.
If you did not use
clear wax first (like my example shown in the photo), or the dark wax has dried completely and cured, don't worry!
I applied another layer of
clear wax on to the flat sections of my piece.
Do you apply a final coat of
clear wax after your dark wax or is the piece finished after the dark wax application?
Typically, at the shop we suggest to customers, to always apply a coat of
clear wax before applying either black wax or dark wax (brown color)....
To make it even easier to control, you can mix a little bit of
clear wax in with your dark wax.
I painted the whole thing in black chalk paint and then
put clear wax on it.
You can mix white wax with
clear wax if you want less white.
To start, I applied a coat of
clear wax all over, wiping off the excess.

clear wax beforehand which will help control the color.
I always use dark wax immediately after
clear wax because it makes it easier to control.
If you don't like the wax, put
clear wax on and it will take off the dark.

I've used Minwax clear Finishing Paste and Fiddes &
Sons clear wax lately.
I think a common misconception
about clear wax is that it is JUST a top - coat like other top coats (polyacrylic, polyurethane, verathane).
Honestly I had a bad experience with polyurethane a few months back so I've stuck to using
clear wax lately unless I'm using spray paint.
Wow so happy I found you I painted a dresser and put dark wax on the drawers only but it looks messy so I am going tp
buy clear wax and get some of the dark wax off just like you taught in your video so excited.
