An acre is a unit of land area used in both imperial and metric systems. In the imperial system, an acre is defined as the amount of land that can be plowed by one horse in one day (approximately 0.4047 hectares or 10 square chains). In the metric system, an acre is equivalent to 1000 square meters (or approximately 0.329 acres).
