The term assassination refers to the act of deliberately killing someone, especially a prominent person or political figure, usually by surprise attack or poison. It is typically done for political reasons or as an act of revenge. The word comes from the Hashshashin, a group of Ismaili Muslims who used hashish (a type of drug) to induce a state of mindless obedience before sending them on missions to kill their enemies in the 12th and 13th centuries.
