Cellophane is a transparent, waterproof and strong material made from cellulose. It was first invented in 1908 by Swiss chemist Jacques Brandenberger who named it after the Greek words for “beautiful voice” because of its transparency. Cellophane is commonly used as packaging material due to its strength, moisture resistance and clarity.
