Cobra is a venomous snake species found in many parts of the world. The term cobra can also refer to any of several large, venomous snakes belonging to the family Elapidae, which includes the Indian cobras (Naja naja), monocled cobras (Corallus hortulanus) and king cobras (Ophiophagus hannah). The term "cobra" is also used as a common name for several other species of venomous snakes, such as the African spitting cobra (Naja nigricollis), the Bushmaster (Lachesis muta) and the Taipan (Oxyuranus scutellatus).
