Crate training is a method of dog training in which a dog is trained to sleep, rest or eat its meals within a crate. The idea behind this form of training is that dogs feel safe and secure when confined within their crates, so they are more likely to behave well while left alone inside the crate.
During crate training, the dog is initially introduced to the crate by placing food or treats inside it. Once the dog goes into the crate on its own to retrieve the treat, praise and rewards are given to reinforce positive behavior. Over time, the dog is gradually encouraged to spend more time in the crate for longer periods of time until they become comfortable spending nights or even days inside it.

It is often used as part of potty-training, where the crate serves as a designated area for the dog to eliminate in. Additionally, crates are also useful when traveling or boarding since dogs tend to feel more secure in their own personal space.
