The term "current law" refers to the legal rules and principles that are currently in force within a particular jurisdiction. It is the body of laws that govern the behavior of individuals, businesses, organizations or government entities within a specific geographic area. Current law can be made up of statutes passed by legislative bodies, case law decided by courts, administrative regulations issued by executive branches and customary practices accepted by society. The current law is subject to change as new laws are enacted, old ones repealed or modified through the legislative process.
