A doctoral student is a person who has been accepted to pursue advanced academic research, typically in order to obtain an PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) degree. This type of student has already completed their undergraduate studies and usually holds a master's degree as well. Doctoral students are considered experts in their field of study and are expected to contribute new knowledge through independent research that they conduct under the guidance of faculty members or advisors. The process of obtaining a PhD can take several years, during which time doctoral students work on completing their dissertation, publish papers, teach classes, attend seminars, and participate in other academic activities.
