An enabler is someone or something that makes it possible for another person to engage in a particular behavior, activity or addiction. The term can be used both positively and negatively depending on the context. For example, an enabler might provide support, resources or opportunities for someone to achieve their goals, while at the same time, an enabler could also enable negative behaviors such as substance abuse, gambling addiction or other self-destructive habits by providing excuses, covering up or making it easier for the person to continue with these behaviors.
