Definition of «fluorescent lights»

Fluorescent lights are a type of lighting that uses fluorescence to produce visible light. Fluorescence is a process where an electric current passes through a gas, causing it to emit ultraviolet (UV) radiation. In turn, the UV radiation excites a phosphor coating on the inside of the lamp, which then emits visible light. This type of lighting is commonly used in offices and other commercial spaces due to its energy efficiency compared to traditional incandescent bulbs.
