Gefilte is a Yiddish term that refers to a type of food made from ground meat, usually beef or chicken. The meat is mixed with other ingredients such as onions, eggs and spices before being formed into patties or balls. Gefilte fish is also known as "gefilte fisch" which means the same thing but refers to a dish made from ground fish (usually carp) that has been poached in broth and served with a sweet and sour sauce.
