Definition of «greenhorn»

A greenhorn is a person who is inexperienced or new to something, often used to describe someone who is new to a particular job, profession, or activity. The term comes from the fact that many new recruits in the military had green hair due to the lack of access to proper hygiene products and were therefore easily distinguished from more experienced soldiers.
