The term "hamstring" refers to one or both of the three muscles located at the back of the thigh. These muscles are responsible for bending the knee and controlling leg movement, including walking, running, and jumping. When these muscles become tight or injured, it can result in a condition called "hamstring strain," which causes pain and discomfort while moving the affected leg.
