A jet pack is a device that uses jets of high-pressure gas to propel an individual into the air. It's essentially a backpack with two nozzles that shoot out flames, allowing the wearer to hover and fly for short periods of time. The term "jet pack" has also come to refer more broadly to any personal flying device or vehicle powered by jet propulsion.
