A luxating patella is a condition in which the kneecap (patella) moves out of its normal position, either to the left or right side. This can occur due to weakness in the muscles surrounding the knee joint, particularly the quadriceps and hamstrings, or from an injury to the knee. When the patella luxates, it may cause pain, swelling, and difficulty walking. Treatment for a luxating patella typically involves strengthening exercises for the surrounding muscles, as well as physical therapy to improve the stability of the kneecap in its normal position.
