Myeloma is a type of cancer that affects the plasma cells in the bone marrow. Plasma cells are responsible for producing antibodies to help fight off infections, but when they become cancerous and multiply uncontrollably, it can lead to myeloma. This condition can cause damage to the bones, as well as other complications such as anemia or kidney problems.
