Nasopharyngeal refers to the nasopharynx, which is a part of the respiratory system. It is located at the back of the throat and connects the pharynx (throat) with the ear canal. The primary function of the nasopharynx is to serve as an airway for breathing and to protect the upper respiratory tract from inhaled particles or microorganisms that may enter through the nose or mouth during swallowing.
