The term "oil fields" refers to an area where crude oil is extracted from underground reservoirs. These areas are often characterized by large-scale drilling operations, storage facilities and processing plants for turning raw petroleum into refined products such as gasoline or diesel fuel. The phrase can also be used more broadly to refer to any area with a significant amount of oil production, including regions where extraction is done through methods other than traditional drilling, such as fracking.
