Ovarian cancer is a type of cancer that originates in the ovaries, which are organs located on either side of the uterus in women. The ovaries produce eggs and female hormones, and they also play an important role in fertility. Ovarian cancer can be difficult to detect early because it often causes no symptoms until it has spread. When symptoms do appear, they may include bloating, pelvic pain or pressure, difficulty eating or swallowing, and frequent urination. Treatment for ovarian cancer typically involves surgery to remove the affected ovary(s) followed by chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy if necessary.
