Partner violence refers to any form of abuse or aggression directed towards a romantic partner, spouse, or significant other. This can include physical harm such as hitting, pushing, kicking, or otherwise causing bodily injury; sexual assault or coercion; psychological and emotional abuse such as name-calling, intimidation, isolation, or controlling behavior; and financial abuse where one partner exerts control over the other's finances. Partner violence can occur in both heterosexual and same-sex relationships and is a serious issue that can have long-lasting effects on victims.
