Definition of «prosperity gospel»

The prosperity gospel is a religious belief that teaches that God wants to bless his followers with health, wealth and happiness. It suggests that if one has enough faith in God, they will be rewarded with material riches and good fortune. The idea behind this theology is that since Jesus died on the cross for our sins, we are now entitled to live a life of abundance and blessings from God. This belief is prevalent among some Pentecostal and charismatic churches, but it has also been criticized by other Christians who believe that it puts too much emphasis on material possessions rather than spiritual growth.
