A referendum campaign is a public awareness and advocacy effort that takes place in advance of an upcoming vote on a specific issue or proposal. The goal of such a campaign is to persuade people to support one side of the argument, often through the distribution of information, speeches, advertisements, and other forms of communication. Referendum campaigns can be held at any level of government - local, regional, national or even international - depending on the issue being voted upon.
