Seismic waves are vibrations that travel through Earth's crust, caused by an event such as an earthquake or volcanic eruption. These waves can be categorized into two types - body waves and surface waves. Body waves move through the interior of the Earth while surface waves move along its surface. Seismologists study these waves to understand the internal structure and composition of our planet, as well as to predict natural disasters such as earthquakes.
