Definition of «silent auction»

A silent auction is a type of fundraising event where participants bid on items or services without any vocal bidding. Instead, they submit their bids in writing, either by filling out a form or placing their bid in person at the venue. The highest bidder wins the item and pays for it after the auction ends. Silent auctions are often used to raise money for charities, schools, churches, and other organizations. They provide an opportunity for people to purchase items they may not have been able to afford otherwise while also supporting a good cause.
