A state senator is a member of a legislative body that represents one of 50 states in the United States. Each state has two senators, who are elected to serve for six-year terms. The primary role of a state senator is to represent their constituents and vote on laws that affect their state. State senators also have the responsibility of overseeing the budget and finances of their state, as well as serving on committees and participating in other legislative activities.
