A tailpipe is a pipe that protrudes from an engine, vehicle or machine through which exhaust gases are expelled. It typically extends from the back of the device and emits fumes such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter when in use. The term can also refer to the outlet for any type of pipe or duct that carries waste products away from a system or machine.
