"Unconventional gas" refers to natural gas that is trapped in unconventional reservoirs or formations, such as shale, coal-bed methane, or tight sands. Unlike conventional gas, which can be readily extracted, unconventional gas requires advanced drilling techniques, like hydraulic fracturing ("fracking"), to release the gas from these rocks.
