Definition of «villus»

Villus refers to a small, hair-like structure on the surface of human skin. These structures are found in groups called pilosebaceous units and contain a hair follicle and an oil gland (sebaceous gland). The villi help to trap dust, dirt, and other particles, preventing them from entering the body through the skin. They also play a role in the growth of new hairs by providing nutrients to the developing hair shaft.
