A camshaft is a part of an engine that helps control the opening and closing of the valves. It has lobes or bumps that move the valves up and down in sync with the engine's rotation, allowing air and fuel to enter the cylinders and exhaust gases to exit. In other words, the camshaft helps the engine "breathe" properly.
