Islet transplants refer to a medical procedure in which tiny clusters of cells called islets are taken from a donor's pancreas and implanted into another person's body. These islets contain cells that produce insulin, a hormone which helps regulate blood sugar levels.
Islet transplants are carried out to treat people with type 1 diabetes who have difficulty controlling their blood sugar levels using other methods.
