This book is undoubtedly more religious in its emphasis than the others, but all through the Book of History and the Odes and the Analects (less here perhaps than elsewhere) is evidence that while Confucius was eminently practical and commonsense in his ethical outlook, he was also a deeply religious man who believed that there was a power beyond man whereon he was dependent.
