Every
2D mario
game is pretty much the same, just different power - ups and
of course different level.
Of course, this is all quite amusing since Sony Computer Entertainment America president Bernie Stolar had a «no
2D games and no RPGs on PlayStation» rule when the system first came out.
The gameplay is
of course where the
game really shines, giving
gamers a solid
2D action / platformer that is not only fun, but incredibly challenging.
The revival
of 2D platformers might be my favourite aspect
of the 7th generation
of games, and
of course that includes Mario Bros., but the bar has definitely been raised, as the genre has come along in leaps and bounds since 2006.
We're probably not going to be seeing another
2D Mario
game anytime soon, unless
of course either Wii U or 3DS become the next system after the NES (or Famicom in Japan) to house multitudes

Rock Boshers DX is a
2D pixel drawn arcade action
game, created as if made on an 8bit hardware (either NES or ZX Spectrum visuals), but modernised with widescreen formatting, HD rendering and

of the entwined 3D race -
course and retro
2D platforming stage design that reached its apex in Sonic Generations.

of why a
2D game needs to take place in stereoscopic 3D, but it doesn't actually get in the way, and besides, if you ask that about NSMB2 it has to be asked

games, which would take far too much effort.
