titles run at native
4K on Xbox One X, it seems like that's probably the rendering technique used here.

runs natively at
4K resolution - that's a 3840x2160 framebuffer without utilising checkerboard rendering or upscaling from a lower resolution.
However, it should be noted that Microsoft clearly stated that all games from its own studios will be in
4K, so we take this as saying third - party
titles might not
run at true
4K at the end of the day.
While a lot of developers have already confirmed that their
titles will use the enhanced capabilities of the PS4 Pro, most of them probably won't
run at native
4K.
Naughty Dog's The Last of Us Remastered won't be the only
title that will
run at a native
4K resolution on the PS4 Pro — Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls Online will also be rendered at native
4K.
A host of these
titles will be enhanced to
run in true
4K, and many will be available at Xbox One X launch.
And while that allows you to play select games in High Dynamic Range (HDR), the One S can not
run titles in
4K.

Over on the official Xbox website, there's a list of the games that are now available as backwards compatible
titles from the OG Xbox era that can now
run on the Xbox One, Xbox One S and the Xbox One X with
4K upscaling enhancements.
For other
titles that are that bit too intensive to
run at native
4K 60 fps — such as Middle - earth: Shadow of Mordor or Horizon: Zero Dawn — Sony has employed a bit of technical wizardry to make it
run.
Microsoft reiterated that there will be no Xbox One X exclusive
titles — games will ship with versions of the code that will
run on original Xbox One machines, Xbox One S (which offers
4K video and HDR) and Xbox One X.
As the
