the 7th generation of gaming systems, the foray into online gaming was pretty much a foregone conclusion.

Looking back at the huge catalogue
of racing games that came out in the
7th generation of console
gaming, I would say that Codemasters & rsquo; original GRID was certainly up there as one
of my favourit...
Thirdly the
7th generation was longer due to the rise
of online
gaming and services such as Netflix, all three consoles were marketed as entertainment systems and the aim was to sell to non
gaming families as well but it would take a while for the cost
of the consoles to come down to somewhere more affordable for this market.
Consoles such as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 still hold on to their premium price points at this late point in their lifecycle and therefore there is little incentive to purchase a
7th generation console at this point whereas 8th
generation handhelds such as the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita are seeing the majority
of their audience move to mobile

It's clear that the 8 year cycle for the
7th generation lasted a lot longer than the standard ~ 5 year cycle because Nintendo introduced a number
of new audiences to
gaming early on and wanted to extend that for as long as possible and maximise profits by creating more software for them to buy.
During the
7th generation the rise
of smartphones and renaissance in PC
gaming led to new models being introduced for games.
Indeed, it's a testament to the longevity
of that
generation, both
gaming consoles, and the many successful games it produced that we're still stuck calling the 8th
generation «next - gen» — because the
7th generation hasn't entirely let go.
So far the
7th generation of the console
gaming sector has gotten off to an interesting start.
