Now with
the 8th generation of consoles being out for about 2 years now, it is apparent that the current generation of consoles can not compete with even mid-grade PC hardware in terms of raw performance.
Obviously, EA is not about to go second - party in
the 8th generation of consoles, but for a few months there have been rumors that Microsoft and EA were working on a limited or timed exclusivity deal for a number of major franchises.

generation has basically only hit the halfway point.

generation console at this point whereas
8th generation handhelds such as the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita are seeing the majority
of their audience move to mobile gaming.
The number
of 8th generation consoles sold to date is lower than the number
of consoles sold last
generation in the same timeframe and many market research firms are pegging lifetime
8th generation console sales at around the 150 million mark, which again is lower than the last two
generations.
The decline was primarily driven by lower sales
of 7th
generation consoles and
8th generation portable devices.
At the start
of the
8th generation there was huge pent up demand for new
consoles and each
of the three new
consoles had the biggest debut sales thanks to core gamers buying these
consoles straight away.
The decline was offset by a substantial increase in
8th generation console software thanks to the release
of key established franchises such as Call
of Duty, Madden, Fallout and Mortal Kombat.
Indeed, it's a testament to the longevity
of that
generation, both gaming
consoles, and the many successful games it produced that we're still stuck calling the
8th generation «next - gen» — because the 7th
generation hasn't entirely let go.
