On the Airbus
A380, business class is located in the upper deck and is arranged in a 2 -2-2
layout with direct aisle access for both middle
seat passengers.
Note: Some airlines fly
A380s with more than one
seat layout but this shouldn't matter because, according to SeatGuru, all versions share the same
seat dimensions.
The new QSuites will be fitted to the Airbus A350 - 1000 for which Qatar Airways is the launch customer but we're also going to see a rapid (and much needed) retrofit of these
seats to Qatar's 777 - 300ER aircraft which currently offer a 2 -2-2 cabin
layout that lags significantly behind what the airline already offers on its 787 Dreamliners, its
A380s and its existing A350s.
From the images provided by Qatar Airways we can see that the centre
seats will alternate in
layout just like the Business Class
seats already alternate in cabins like Etihad's
A380 Business Class cabin.
Qantas still offers 2 -2-2
seating on its
A380s and a mix of 2 - 2 and 2 -3-2
seating on its ageing 747s while United, despite operating the newest aircraft type on the route (787 - 9) also only offers a 2 -2-2
seating layout.
The excellent
seat width has been achieved by keeping the Premium Economy cabin on the lower deck of the
A380 (where the aircraft is widest) and by keeping the number of
seats in a row down to just 8 (in a 2 -4-2
layout).
Nevertheless, its design and
layout is inferior to the Business Class product offered on QA's A350s,
A380s and B787s, even though this particular A330 plane was equipped with the refurbished Business Class cabin (QA still has several A330 flying around that feature the old Business Class product with
seats that recline to a maximum of 165 degree).
