Another example where your frequent flyer status can get you more baggage is if you're
an AAdvantage gold member.
Going back to the example of
the AAdvantage Gold Member I used earlier:
So, for example,
an AAdvantage Gold member flying a round trip between Los Angeles and London (approx. 10,900 miles in distance) on American Airlines in Business Class would earn:
Point 1 — 3: We can pretty much dismiss these as being a valuable benefit because a passenger with Gold status will have everyone in the two status tiers above them ahead of then in the upgrade queue — upgrades are very hard to come by as
an AAdvantage Gold member and they are rare.
You could make an argument for putting a value on the bonus miles that
AAdvantage Gold members receive and on the discount that they get on Main Cabin Extra seating but both depend on the travel patterns of the consumer.
Under the new system, base members (without elite status) will earn 5 miles for each dollar spent on the fare,
AAdvantage Gold members will earn 7 miles per dollar, Platinum members will earn 8 and Executive Platinum elites will earn 11 miles per dollar.
