Although you have to book roundtrip fares with

offer ridiculously low redemption rates for getting to South Africa with miles and points at only 104,000 miles roundtrip!
If you're not familiar with
ANA they are one of my favorite airlines because they
offer such great redemption rates (often with little fees) and are a partner of American Express Membership Rewards.

American Express Membership Rewards is the granddaddy of programs
offering point transfers to major airlines like Delta, Hawaiian Airlines, JetBlue,
ANA, British Airways, Singapore Airlines and Virgin Atlantic among others.
I tend to agree that the
offer isn't very impressive, although compared to what some other global carriers
offer for their co-branded cards (like
ANA's 5,000 miles bonus), this
offer isn't bad.
Like some other non-U.S. airline frequent flyer programs (
ANA, JAL, Etihad, and more), Asia Miles
offers incredible value, if you are willing to take the time to understand the potential.
United bonus miles are pretty valuable, since Star Alliance
offers some of the best first class and business class partners (Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa, Swiss, Thai Airways,
ANA, Asiana) and the route map is great for most places apart from South America.
Unfortunately, none of these programs
offer award prices as attractive as
ANA's, but unlike
ANA they allow one - way awards.
