At 10 a.m., NYC Chancellor Carmen Farina delivers remarks at
the Academy for Young Writers graduation, 1065 Elton St., Brooklyn.
This morning she was named a recipient of the Rosenthal Family Foundation Award — given by the American
Academy of Arts and Letters — honoring «a
young writer of considerable literary talent
for a work published in 2012» and accompanied by a prize of $ 10,000.
It was conducted under the supervision of
writer Jamaica Kincaid, and won numerous awards including the John Llwellyn Rhys Prize
for Best First Novel, the American
Academy of Arts and Letters Sue Kaufman Prize, the Barnes & Noble Discover New
Writers Award, the New York Public Library
Young Lions Fiction Award, and the Los Angeles Times First Book Award.
