I admit my outrage with the film grew in direct proportion to the accolades it got, so when I saw her get the award, I just had had enough (correction: that was when
the Academy snubbed 86 - year - old Emmanuelle Riva to give the Oscar to Jennifer Lawrence, but that's a whole other story).
However, the night really belonged to Argo, which, despite
the Academy snubbing Ben Affleck in the directing category, came out on top by nabbing the coveted Best Picture award.
Remember, although
the Academy snubbed them, the Globes went with both Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty) and Ava DuVernay (Selma) for Best Director when they were up, which makes them more likely to nominate a woman.

While he was unfairly
snubbed by the
Academy for his work in American Beauty, he was triumphant three years later when he picked up the best supporting actor Oscar for his role in Spike Jonze's sharp meta - comedy.
Already a groundswell of support is in place for the
Academy to «Right the Wrong» of the
snub of The Dark Knight, but even the most rabid of fans of these films must admit, we have to see it first.

Academy's five.
Snubbed: Michael Keaton («Spotlight»), Idris Elba («Beasts of No Nation»), Jacob Tremblay («Room») Reaction: The
snub of Elba is unfortunate, but it makes me wonder if members of The
Academy truly thought «Beasts» was a theatrical release.
But this is the second year in a row where worthy films were
snubbed seemingly only for being «too mainstream» for the hipster
Academy.
Though the animated blockbuster hit was wrongfully
snubbed from the
Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, it was still a fave of critics and audiences alike and is now included in your HBO membership.

Months of prognostication were upended this morning when the nominations for the 89th annual
Academy Awards were finally announced (the telecast runs Sunday, February 26th), sending the internet into a tizzy of insta - analysis over the shocks, surprises... and of course, the
snubs.
Adoration of Christopher Nolan remains high, but this is hardly the year the
Academy will make the effort to atone for
snubbing Nolan's previous efforts The Dark Knight (in both Best Picture and Best Director) and Inception (in Best Director), assuming Nolan's generation of filmmakers will ever embrace Nolan's particular brand of moody pop art.
The «Lady Bird» writer and director, who was
snubbed in the directing category at the Golden Globes earlier this year, but was later nominated for a DGA Award when they were announced a few days later, was recognized by the
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Tuesday in the directing and writing categories.

With countless
snubs under his belt from the prestigious
Academy Awards, Christopher Nolan may have found his ticket to his first Best Director nomination.
While it remains a travesty that Fargo was
snubbed in favor of The English Patient at the 69th
