Mediation is a way for people to make practical, fair, informed decisions in a divorce,
adult family,
family feud, elder care, or other
family dispute with the help of a
trained impartial professional.
During
mediation, both adults sit down together with a mediator (who at Divorce Mediation & Family Services of New York is also a trained litigator) and negotiate a plan that will hopefully optimize everyone's well

mediations are conducted by experienced divorce attorneys or
family therapists who have special
training in divorce
mediation which includes divorce law, financial planning, taxes, and the emotional effects of divorce on
adults and children.
Professional education shall include (1)
adult psychopathology, (2) child development, (3) children's issues of divorce, (4) divorce recovery, (5) basic legal terminology and the legal process of divorce, (6)
family systems theory, (7) domestic violence, and (8)
mediation and conflict resolution
training.
