I'm guessing that my
book sat somewhere around average or low - average compared to the other Kindle Press authors /
books, and while I do think that my
book cleared the investment that they made directly into it (
advance, editing and
promotion), it definitely didn't make enough of a profit for Kindle Press to compensate for the hours and hours of time and
effort that goes into the open submission process of the Kindle Scout program.
Your
book marketing and
promotion success will depend on your own networking
efforts, even if you're cruising on an
advance from a big NY publisher.
Of course the fact that it's merit that sells
books, with the great
effort that is going into them by our highly competitive publishers, means
advances have disappeared, but royalty rates — considering what you get in great service and
promotion — are competitive with Amazon's 70 %.
