She is a stray
African village dog and lives freely amongst the people who feed her, give her water and let her rest in the shade when it is too hot.
The results led the team to conclude that today's
African village dogs are a genetic mixture of dogs descended from early migrants to Africa.
Lead scientist, Dr Adam Boyko of the Department of Biological Statistics and Computational Biology at Cornell University, says he decided to focus his research on
African village dogs because they are so much more genetically diverse than dogs that are bred.
Unsurprisingly, the F lineage has also been found in
African village dogs, as well as, surprisingly, some samples from Mongolia.
