violence against the mother; (3) household factors: single -
parent household, number of siblings (0, 1, 2, or 3 +), language spoken at home (English vs non-English), neighborhood good for raising kids (excellent / very good, good, or fair / poor), household urbanicity (urban city, urban county, or rural), and modified Home Observation for Measurement of the Environment — Short Form (HOME - SF) score.
For example, a
parent who has been convicted of domestic
violence may be denied custody, whether the
violence was perpetrated
against the child's other
parent, the child herself, her siblings, or even another family.

violence against children as a method of punishment is endorsed by
parents, sanctioned by societal institutions (such as schools) and allowed by law.

When a court is asked to make consent orders which would result in a child spending time with a

Domestic
violence in all forms is considered detrimental to a child, so if either
parent has a history of
violence - even if it is
against a partner and not the child - South Carolina law allows a judge to deny him or her custody.
The intergenerational transmission of this behavior appears to be role - specific, i.e., children who observe
violence between
parents may come to see it as acceptable behavior between spouses but not
against kids.
(3) A
parent who desires to file a legal action
against a court - appointed psychologist who has acted in good faith in developing a
parenting plan recommendation must petition the judge who presided over the dissolution of marriage, case of domestic
violence, or paternity matter involving the relationship of a child and a
parent, including time - sharing of children, to appoint another psychologist.
An injunction for protection
against domestic
violence issued pursuant to s. 741.30 for a
parent as the petitioner which is in effect at the time of the court proceeding shall be one means of demonstrating sufficient evidence that the
parent is a victim of domestic
violence or is about to become the victim of an act of domestic
violence, as defined in s. 741.28, and shall exempt the
parent from this section, including the requirement to post a bond or other security.
Where a
parent who has been accused of domestic
violence against the other
parent or the child is granted primary custody of the child
In California, if a
parent has a history of domestic
violence against the child's other
parent, the child, or the child's siblings, the court would prefer not to grant custody to that
parent.
